Daffodils are my very favorite flower. I've always loved their cheery yellow color, but they cemented their status as my all time favorite after I read this:

This has been spread around the internet for years and then was finaly published into a beautiful book. A friend of mine gave it to me for my birthday a few years back and it is still one of my all time favorite gifts.

I'm happy to say that my new quote packs are selling well and I've had some great feedback about them. So far the best seller is the Great Women pack, but they are all doing well.

I'm taking tomorrow off from blogging. I've spent soooooo much time at the computer this week that I've let other things fall by the wayside. So I will still fill orders, but now blog entries here or on the Scrapbooking blog on Sunday April 9th.

Daylight Savings

The whole daylight savings thing seems like a good idea in the fall, but I'm sitting here at 11:18 p.m. on a spring night thinking it is a terrible idea! My body is sure it is only 10:18 p.m. and thus it is not at all ready to go to bed. But when the alarm goes off at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow - there will be no mercy!

Really...I wish we could just let nature take it's course on this and leave the clocks alone.

I was working on redesigning my entire website yesterday and I got to cleaning up some old email addresses that I don't use anymore. I was being charged an extra $2.00 a month to have the no longer useful email accounts so I decided to delete them and save myself a few bucks. I got a little toooooo zealous with the delete button and I accidentally got rid of my main email account!

I was able to set up the same email account again - but all my saved messages were lost! I had a folder just for quotes that probably had 200 messages saved in it!

Well, I guess I have a clean slate to start with!

Don't worry though... I still have oodles of ideas for quotes to share here. Just wish I had not relied on the e-mail filing system so heavily.

So if I am to believe today's quote, I must be VERY clever!

too busy

I've been busy as a bee the past few days. Haven't even finished my anniversary layout yet. We were too busy to even do much to celebrate our anniversary, but my hubby and I did get a chance to go on a lunch date yesterday.

We all are always trying to strike a balance between being too busy and finding the time to do what is important.

I try to be, but it is hard. I can into a pretty negative cycle if I let myself. That is why I work so hard at being an optimist.

I have realized that I have to be careful about what I put in - if I want good feelings to come out. For instance, I have a hard time watching tv shows about really difficult subject matters such as terrible crimes. I just internalize it too much and it really gets me down to think about all the awful stuff that goes on in the world.

I do believe in being informed and keeping up with the news, but I also need to regulate how much negative stuff I feed my brain.

I happen to be a Monday's child. What day of the week were you born on, and does the ryhme fit you?

My kids were born on Friday and Sunday and I would have to say that their days of the week seem fitting for them.

Don't know what day of the week you were born on? Simply do a google search for the complete date (including year) and you should be able to find it. I didn't know what day of the week my husband was born on until I did a search. Turns out he's a Saturday's child and the saying for that day rings true for him! He has had to work very hard for a living, but I'm grateful to him for doing so.

I found the quote for today on another blog.

I don't know who Mallock is, I can't seem to find anything about her/him? and I can't find the origin of this quote so if anyone runs into please let me know.

As far as I'm concerned though, this Mallock person is talking to me.

During the month of March, I'm going to be working on finishing things I've already started. There is plenty in that category to keep me busy all month!

I know I'm not the only one who struggles with this. What do you need to finish?

My list is longer than this, but here are a few that come to mind:

21 day Art Journal Challenge (I've been working on the habit, but haven't kept up with the journal part!)

2 quilts that I started 2 years ago! Did I actually just admit that in public?

Going through a stack of papers in my office that I have been rearranging, relocating, and re-shoving (I think that should be a word) into various places.

My autism book. Won't say how long I've been working on that.

Ok, you get the idea. I won't bore you (or embarrass myself) with the rest of the list.

So why is it so hard to finish? Why do we humans need some big motivation to get to the end of something? Look at all the sayings that relate to this:

I have felt a great accomplishment from keeping up my scrap blog and this quote blog on an almost daily basis. I have only missed a few days and it just so happens that yesterday was one of them! So I will post another quote for the day in this entry to make up for it. :)

I got this one from Rhonna Farrer's blog and decided to make it my own - or at least make it my own using Rhonna's awesome designs!

This proverb is a great way to remember what usually stops us from establishing a good habit. Temptation in some form creeps in to convince us that the habit is not worth pursuing or that it is unattainable.

I am going to choose to resist temptation and pursue the habits that will improve my life.

I used to dislike Shaq because he played for a team other than mine. I have to admit I have changed my mind over the years. As far as overpaid athletes go, this guy is pretty ok. Plus you've got to admire someone who keeps his promise to his Momma! :)

Here's the story behind Shaq's billboard:

Perseverance

One of the most recognizable basketball players in the world, Shaquille O’Neal, was born on March 6, 1972 in Newark, New Jersey. His father was in the Army when he was growing up and the family lived in different parts of the world. He first started playing basketball at an Army base in Germany and quickly fell in love with the sport.

After a successful high school career in San Antonio, Texas, O’Neal attended Louisiana State University. The basketball star majored in business and set records on the court. He was named a first-team All-America in 1991 and 1992 and was the National Player of the Year in 1991.

Following these accolades, O’Neal made the decision to leave LSU after his junior year and turn pro. When announcing the decision, he also made a promise to his mother that he would finish his degree. In 1992, the Orlando Magic drafted O’Neal first overall. He immediately became a star in the National Basketball Association. During his career, he has won numerous awards including: nine All-Star selections; four All-NBA First Team selections; Rookie of the Year in 1992-93; and Most Valuable Player in 2000. He also has won three championships with the Los Angeles Lakers and was named MVP of the Finals each time. O’Neal also helped the USA basketball team win a gold medal in the 1996 Olympics.

Even while earning awards, O’Neal never forgot the promise he made to his mother and his school. He attended summer courses and an independent study program. His perseverance paid off as he earned his bachelor’s degree in general studies with a political science minor. On December 15, 2000, he received his diploma. O’Neal missed one of his team’s games to receive the diploma in person at LSU.

O’Neal did not stop with his bachelor’s degree. He attended the University of Phoenix and earned a master’s degree in business administration in June 2005. He has stated that when his playing days are done, he wants to be a police officer. In fact, O’Neal has worked for the Los Angeles Police Department and the Miami Beach Police Department during different off-seasons and attended the Los Angeles County Police Academy while playing for the Lakers.

Off the court, O’Neal is extremely active in charitable efforts, including donating $1 million to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America in support of their technology initiatives. He invites underprivileged children throughout the nation to various professional games, serves the homeless on Thanksgiving, brings gifts and spreads cheer to needy children in local hospitals at Christmas, and also makes frequent visits to the terminally ill through the “Make-A-Wish Foundation.” Most recently, along with his wife, Shaunie, O’Neal organized a relief effort to help victims of Hurricane Katrina by collecting essential supplies for displaced families in the Louisiana and Texas areas.

His perseverance to honor his promise to his mother and his commitment to helping others, makes Shaquille O’Neal an even bigger star off the court than he is on.

I am posting this layout on my scrap blog today also - I don't usually duplicate between the 2 blogs, but it has to do with the subject I am posting about there also.

I thought this quote was a fun one and I just happened to have a picture of a lily that I took last summer so I thought this was the perfect combination!

While I really am too practical to spend one of my last 2 pennies on a lily, it is a wonderful thing to remember to enjoy the finer things in life, even in a time of need.

Appreciating beauty is one of our rights that we should never take for granted.

Even though it is a cold and snowy February day right now, I can still enjoy the sight of this beautiful lily.

Here's my dog Ginger and she has a problem...she likes baked goods!

This is a layout I did several months ago, but I thought it was worth digging it out for this post.

We had a Ginger "incident" today. We are hosting an Olympic party for some friends tomorrow afternoon and I went to Costco yesterday to get all the goodies. I decided to make it easy and do a build your own sandwich type of meal. I bought lots of lunch meats, cheeses, and other sandwich fixins and several large bags of ciabatta bread rolls (which make for yummy sandwiches.) The rolls came 8 to a package and I bought 5 bags so that there would be plenty (we are having 20 people come over!)

I didn't have room to store 5 bags of rolls in my kitchen, so I put them in my downstairs storage room on a shelf. I went down there tonight and found a bag ripped open claw marks and 7 of the 8 rolls gone! I think the only reason the 8th roll was still there is because she couldn't get it out. I find it hard to believe she gave up with only 1 roll to go!

What a goofy dog! Hope we can keep the rest of them safe until party time!

As a sidenote, my nice hubby felt went to the store and got more rolls. :)

Olympic Spirit

The Winter Olympics start today and will be broadcast here in the United States on NBC at 8/7 central.

This is such an exciting time and I have an even stronger sense of Olympic Spirit after Salt Lake City hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics. My husband was a volunteer who worked in the speed skating venue working with the foreign dignitaries. He had a wonderful experience and it was so amazing to hear his stories at the end of each day. I will try to share some of our Olympic pictures on my blogs over the next few weeks.

I have started reading a new book over the past few days called "How to think like Leonardo da Vinci: Seven Steps to Genius Every Day." It is just fascinating!

There are some amazing creative activities which I can't wait to get to, but for now I am doing as the book suggests and just reading it straight through. Then I will go back and do the exercises that are based on some of the entries Leonardo made in his many notebooks. His collected notebooks contain more than 7000 pages!

I'm feeling very inspired already, so you may be seeing some more Leonardo quotes here on the blog in the next week or so!

Eating an artichoke

Don't you love how random the topics are that I choose for quotes each day? If you are trying to figure out a pattern, or some sort of rhyme or reason to it all, don't bother because there isn't any!

That's what is fun for me about this blog, just a quote for the day and a little something extra with it. The blogging works like my brain does, jumping from topic to topic in no particular order.

Today's quote is from one of my all time favorite swines:

Now I actually like artichokes, but I would have to agree with the pig because they are a lot of work!

Still, they are yummy, and I especially like stuff with artichoke hearts in it. I've got a craving for a good hot artichoke dip so maybe I will make this one tonight.

Artichoke Dip

1 (13 & 3/4 oz.) can quartered artichoke hearts, drained
1 cup fresh grated Parmesan cheese
1 cup mayonnaise
1 (4 oz) can diced green chiles

combine all ingredients in bakind dish. Bake uncovered for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Serve warm with white corn tortilla chips.

I found this quote while reading "When Fish Fly: Lessons for Creating a Vital and Energized Workplace." In the book it refers to the philosophies that the owner and fishmongers of Pike Place use to run the market. For me, it has application as well, but in my home and with my family.

I can show my children how to do things. I can tell them the steps they need to take. What I want more than anything though, is to instill in them the desire, the yearning, to want to suceed on their own. They are the fish I want to teach to fly!

This is a quote I will keep in a special place, one that will ensure I see it often so I remember how I hope to inspire them.

More than likely, you have heard that quote before! It came from Forrest Gump and it became so overused that most people don't even stop to think about what it really means anymore.

I found an interesting link that lists the top 10 movie quotes of all time. How many of them do you recognize?

I like quotes from movies and I will often make note of them and use them in my daily speech. Napoleon Dynamite changed the vernacular around here! - LOL!

Anyway, I enjoy watching movies, but it turns out that I don't see many of them. Last year I did a recap of my favorite 2005 movies on my scrapbook blog. Well, I want to do the same thing this year. I don't know if I will limit it to movies released in 2006 or not, just depends on how many of those I actually see since I don't make it to the theater a lot! For now, I will keep track of all the new (never before seen by me) movies I watch during the year.

A few weeks ago we watched The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill which was quite fascinating. Who knew there were wild parrots in San Francisco!? It made me want to travel there and see them for myself. It was a thought provoking movie that gave us lots of interesting discussion points to pursue as a family. I love it when that happens...when my kids want to know more! I would recommend this movie, especially if you enjoy movies like March of the Penguins or Winged Migration which are both excellent as well.

Ok, so can you believe that is the only new movie I have seen so far this year? There are a lot of movies out there that I haven't seen yet, even some classics. I hate to admit this but I have only seen 10 of
Time.com all time top 100 movies!

It's only 9:30 p.m. but I'm ready for bed. I'm tired tonight and it has been a busy day. For some reason I have a hard time admitting to myself that I need the sleep. I always seem to end up playing around on the computer instead - LOL! So I will make this short and try and get straight to dream land.

I don't know if it is this way for most people but I seem to have an overactive dream factory in my head. I rarely have a night where I don't remember having a lot of very interesting and complex dreams. I would love to get into some dream interpretation, but on the other hand...do I really want to go there? I've thought about picking up a book on the meaning of dreams because my son is very interested in it also, but they all seem to have a great amount of focus on the racy stuff. Not really what I want him to read - and I'm really not wanting to delve into all that either.

So if you know of a good dream interpretation book that would be appropriate for even a child to read, please leave me a comment.

I'm struggling with procrastination right now. I have a book to write, a basement to clean, and a few other GINORMOUS tasks that are easier to put off than do. I'm usually not such a procrastinator, and truthfully I have been getting a lot of other good stuff done. But, these are things that are important and that need to be done in the very near future.

So this quote is for me today. Hopefully it will kick start something in me.

I thought it was kind of a funny quote from a former U.S. President, but I really have to say I agree. In fact, I'm thinking every woman has the right to a Saturday night bath and I plan to declare my rights tonight!

The Wikipedia entry for Saturday brought up another interesting tidbit about baths on Saturdays:

In Scandinavian countries, Saturday is called Lördag or Löverdag etc., the name being derived from the old word laugr, meaning bath, thus Lördag equates to bath-day.

My kids were really excited about Friday the 13th today. We decided to start our day with a bowl of Lucky Charms so we would have "good luck" all day. :) The day went smoothly and I think they might have been a little disapointed even that nothing exciting happened!

Here are some fun facts about Friday the 13th from Mental Floss:

Every calendar year has at least one Friday the 13th, but no more than three of them can occur in any year.

* Is the fear of Friday the 13th based on the fear of the number thirteen itself?

It is, yes. And when you think about it, 13 is when numbers reach a new level when it comes to common items. There are 12 months in a year, 12 inches in a foot, 12 items in a dozen, 12 signs of the zodiac, and when we learn our multiplication tables in school, they go all the way up to 12 times 12. While some think that Christianity deems the number unlucky, researchers have determined that the modern-day fear of 13 is based on Norse mythology. According to the story, 12 gods were dining at Valhalla when a 13th guest named Loki joined the party. Loki ended up causing the death of Balder, the Norse god of light and joy. From that day forward, the legend goes, the number 13 has been unlucky.

* Does Friday the 13th really have an impact on the U.S. economy?

More than you might expect, in fact. According to an ABC News report from 2005, businesses lose nearly one billion dollars every Friday the 13th, owing to everything from people who stay home from work to those who won't travel on the unlucky day. Some of this loss is due to lower volume on the stock market, but investors shouldn't be frightened of Friday the 13th. A study looking at stock prices over the last 50 years proved that the Dow performs better on Friday the 13th than on other Fridays.

* Is there anyplace in the world where Friday the 13th is considered lucky?

There are a few places, in fact. In China and much of Asia, the date is considered fortunate, or at the very least not unlucky. You'd have to go down under to find the people who really think Friday the 13th is lucky, however. In Australia, lottery agents report a brisk business every Friday the 13th, selling 50 percent more tickets than average on that day.

* NASA tells us that a Friday the 13th coming up several years from now might be exciting.

That's what they say, yes. In 2004, the organization's Near Earth Object Program reported that a sizeable asteroid had a one-in-60 chance of colliding with Earth on Friday, April the 13th, 2029. The thousand-foot-wide asteroid would cause major damage wherever it hit. They predicted massive tsunamis if it hit the ocean, or destruction of an area the size of Texas if it hit land. Luckily, further calculations determined that the asteroid will miss the Earth by about 20,000 miles, but that will still be close enough for it to put on quite a visual show in the sky. As it turns out, an asteroid that size gets that close to Earth only about once every 1,000 years.

* Who were the three scariest guys to be born on Friday the 13th?

Well, our researchers chose three for us. First is Christopher Plummer, the long-serving Canadian actor who has appeared in dozens of films over the past fifty years, including many horror pictures. The second is Steve Buscemi, whose gaunt appearance has served him well in roles in films like "Fargo" and "Con Air," in which he portrayed a serial killer. But the spookiest person born on Friday the 13th has to be Alfred Hitchcock. He was born on Friday, August 13, 1899. The Master of Suspense died back in 1980, but had he lived to be 100, Hitchcock would have hit the century mark in August of 1999, again on Friday the 13th.

Let's hear for being unique! I love this celebration of individual thought and talent.

Make a list of ways you can differentiate yourself from the crowd. You don't have to read, watch, or do what everyone else is currently into. Here's mine:

I usually don't read a lot of books on the current bestseller lists, instead I focus on areas of interest to me specifically. I do read a lot, just not what is "popular."

I've never watched an episode of "LOST" or "Grey's Anatomy" or "CSI" - not because I think they are bad shows, just haven't been interested at this time.

I have no problem doing silly things (within reason of course) that most people wouldn't do. A few years ago we threw a Super Bowl party for our neighborhood friends and somehow I ended up drinking a raw egg for everyone's entertainment! Long story, but I promise there was no alchohol involved. I don't drink, and I never have. I guess that is another way I'm unique. :)

I found the inspiration for today's quote on Sharon Sonneff's blog. I scraplifted her quote idea and made my own version:

If you didn't already read the entry on Sharon's blog that I linked to, go back and read it now and explore the links she posted. It is so interesting. I have heard before that Einstein is considered to have had Asperger's Syndrome. My son has become quite interested in Albert Einstein lately and I told him about this theory the other day. He thought it was pretty neat.

Another historical figure thought to have had Asperger's is Thomas Jefferson. There is actually a book called Diagnosing Jefferson that I have never read, but it sure sounds interesting.

The other place I'm going to point you toward is Ali Edward's blog entry for today. She is thanking everyone for the comments that were sent in regard to an earlier entry titled "seeing" - she doesn't seem to have links to past entries so I can't take you to the exact post, just scroll down a ways until you find it. She asked about taking her son out to a restaurant. Lots of good responses here and I also posted a comment. In fact, I will post about this all on my autism blog tomorrow, but tonight I need to sleep!

Sorry I missed the post yesterday, that might happen occasionally, but I will always make up for it with an extra quote!

My Dad sends me random emails with thoughts, pictures, and ideas to share. The other day he sent me some apples (via email - he lives 600 miles away!)

My mom keeps me up to date by sending me links to important news stories. She calls me nearly every day and we discuss important stuff like the grandkids, what we are making for dinner, and our latest finds at Target. ;)

My youngest brother plays the piano with true talent. He has only been taking lessons for about 2 years but you would think it was more like 10. He seems to have a gift for music and he also plays 2 different types of clarinets.

My brother in Texas has always had a soft spot for the underdog, in sports and in life. He cares deeply about people with mental challenges, the homeless, and others in need. He spends his days as a case worker trying to make life better for some people who have it pretty rough.

That is the family I grew up in. Of course I have my own family now but I post plenty about them already. I want to be sure that I am giving my family (both near and far) memories of happiness each day.

Twins!

Today's quote is in honor of my brand new twin nieces born just last night. They are itty bitty and will need to stay in the hospital awhile still, but they are progressing and our prayers are with them. They are in the NICU so I won't get to see them until they are out, but I have seen pictures and they are so sweet and cute.

I dusted off my paper scrapbooking supplies and made this card to welcome them.

This quote makes me smile because it looks like an entry from my childhood journal. Almost every time I wrote about something I signed off with the statement "I had fun!" I ate spaghetti for lunch today. I had fun! I went to Disneyland with my family. I had fun! I lost a tooth yesterday and the tooth fairy left me a quarter. I had fun!

Well, you get the idea. I still have to restrain myself from making these kind of simple and worn out statements in my journaling. I do love the exclamation points as you will notice on my posts. Some things never change! LOL!

I've enjoyed keeping this blog and it has been a great extension of my quotes and quips website. I have tried to keep it fresh and interesting by exploring different themes and ways of presenting quotes.

So everything is wrapped and ready to go. I always splurge on nice wrapping paper and bows at Christmas. I start putting my presents out the day that the tree is up. To me, they are part of the decorations.

The words and music to the Christmas song Little Drummer Boy was composed by Katherine K. Davis, Henry Onorati and Harry Simeone in 1958. The lyrics of Little Drummer Boy consist of no less than 21 rum pum pum pum' - a major part of the song and therefore presenting an apparently easy task for the lyricist! However, Little Drummer Boy has been a huge hit for several artists. The most notable rendition was created by the most unlikely combination of Bing Crosby and David Bowie. This version of Little Drummer Boy was a massive hot for the artists and was in fact Bing Crosby's most successful recording since the legendary White Christmas.

The author and composer of We Wish You a Merry Christmas cannot be traced however it is believed to date back to England in the sixteenth century. The tradition of carollers being given Christmas treats for singing to wealthy members of the community is reflected in this Christmas song - We Wish You a Merry Christmas! Over the years the fashion for figgy puddings mentioned in We Wish You a Merry Christmas has faded. But for the curious, the recipe consisted of the most important ingredient which was of course figs together with butter, sugar, eggs ,milk, rum, apple, lemon and orange peel, nuts, cinnamon, cloves and ginger! Not dissimilar to the modern day Christmas Puddings!

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
had a very shiny nose.
And if you ever saw him,
you would even say it glows.

All of the other reindeer
used to laugh and call him names.
They never let poor Rudolph
join in any reindeer games.

Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say:
"Rudolph with your nose so bright,
won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"

Then all the reindeer loved him

He was requested to produce a poem that could be given away to children by the Santa Claus employed by Department Stores at Christmas! Working as an Advertising Executive Robert May had a natural flair with words and was able to compose the Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer poem which was specifically designed to appeal to children. This marketing ploy was a massive success and approximately 2.5 million Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
